The bird in the painting above is a red-whiskered bulbul and is native to Asia. Back in 1960 bulbuls escaped from an aviary in Miami, Florida and took up residence.

Eventually red-whiskered bulbuls made their way over to Pasadena, California. I was fortunate to have a nesting pair in my backyard for years. Beautiful birds with a beautiful song.
